EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS &
EVACUATION PLANNING

From Duane L. Whitelaw, Fire Chief

The North Tahoe Fire Protection District is pleased to provide you with this emergency preparedness and evacuation plan It includes useful information before, during and after an emergency.  I urge you and all members of the household to be familiar with it.  The map section of this emergency preparedness and evacuation plan is designed on the back for you to identify evacuation routes specific to your neighborhood.  Please take a minute to identify all ingress and egress routes that take you to a major roadway.  This is also a spot to add your personal and important phone numbers which may be needed while away from home.  You could also add phone numbers of your neighbors. Depending on the emergency, some routes may be unusable.  Listen carefully to evacuation instructions and maintain your composure to the extent possible.  Your safety is our number one priority and if directed, please take evacuation orders seriously.

There is no “magic recipe” for evacuation.  By knowing all possible options, you are better prepared when the order is given.  Consider discussing evacuation with your neighbors in an effort to watch out for each other.  The Fire Protection District will gladly meet with you (or preferably a group of neighbors) to make this plan neighborhood specific.  While the emergency alert system and other television stations are a potential source of emergency information, the power may be out leaving your vehicle’s radio as your only information option.  I suggest programming the radio stations listed in this plan in your radio today. Every effort will be made to update these stations as the incident develops. You could also program the Placer County information number in your cell phone.

The Board of Directors of the Fire Protection District and staff want you as prepared as possible during times of emergency.  Feel free to contact us at customerservice@ntfire.net or by calling at 530-583-6911.
