FIRE AND LIFE SAFETY

Battalion Chief Dave Ruben leads the District's Division of Fire & Life Safety. The Division staff is responsible for plan review, code enforcement, public education, fire investigation, and the Defensible Space Program.  We provide similar services for the Alpine Meadows area through a contract with the Alpine Springs County Water District.

We inspect the R-1, A, E, I and H building code occupancies, including the development of pre-incident plans for high hazard and high occupancy businesses.

PLEASE NOTE that beginning May 19, 2008 a cost recovery fee schedule became effective.  Fees must be paid upon plan submittal to the fire district.  Credit cards will not be accepted.

To review the NTFPD Fire Prevention Code, effective April 28, 2010 please click here.  This is in addition to the California Fire Code and Placer County Code.  In addition, frequently asked questions on the new building codes for California's Wildland Urban Interface can be found by clicking here.

You may also access the Community Wildfire Protection Plan for the California portion of the Lake Tahoe basin by clicking here.  Additionally, the Alpine Meadows Community Wildfire Protetection Plan can be accessed by clicking here.

Also available is the Placer County Local Hazard Mitigation Plan.  The purpose of hazard mitigation is to reduce or eliminate long-term risk to people and property from hazards. Placer County and the other participating jurisdictions developed this Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP) update to make the County and its residents less vulnerable to future hazard events. Similar to the 2005 LHMP, this plan was prepared pursuant to the requirements of the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 so that Placer County would be eligible for the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Pre-Disaster Mitigation and Hazard Mitigation Grant programs as well as lower flood insurance premiums (in jurisdictions that participate in the National Flood Insurance Program’s Community Rating System).  Please click here to access the North Tahoe Fire Protection District's section of the LHMP.

Please don’t forget to check the "Defensible Space information" on our website as well as other links under “Fire & Life Safety” for specific information and programs available to the public!
